A LIGHT AND LILTING COMMENT ON RAP JOSEPH HOLBROOK Some one recently mentioned to me they had seen a special on TV dealing with Rap Music and wanted to know if I'd seen it.    I told them that I've always felt Rap Music was the perfect oxymoron because. . . .there is no music.    I don’t mind that it's called "Rap". . .but "Rap Music" bothers the hell out of me .    I know that the person who asked was one who enjoys finding out about street language and WHY WHAT is being said IS being said, and HOW they're saying it.   A noble effort I'm sure.    Me. . . .I don't care.    More than that, I see the whole subculture as a gross and constant moan of people who think like victims and criminals and who choose to follow leaders who will feed them exactly what they want.   I find their speech, thinking process and actions an affront to civilization and social evolution.    Which is also exactly what they want.

I don't define my prejudices by race and never have. It's not logical. But I am prejudiced against people who purposely choose anger, hate, stupidity, ignorance and uncivilized actions.    I find Rap to be nothing more than a scar, along with all of the other scars of the era.   If it can be called an art form at all, the content is so pedestrian as to be dismissed as nothing more than a passing shame in an era of shame.   By now, I thought it would die out. . .like disco.   The only think I’m thankful about is that if it does die out soon. . .I'm too old to live through a revival.

A bit strong, but I've had it up to here with undeserved arrogance and purposeful desecration.    Civilization as we know it is taking a back seat to . . . . .well, whatever this is we're seeing and it may be irreversible.   The edge of the Cliff seems closer every day.
